Lions and Tigers and Wedding Bells, Oh My!

I’ve been engaged now for 7 days and 15 hours… and am loving every single minute of it.  I have been nothing but a puddle of grins pretty much since the moment of engagement.  I catch myself sitting there and grinning for no reason at all (except of course that I’m now a fiance to another wonderful soul who has asked to spend the rest of his life, to infinity and beyond, with me). I catch myself looking forward to riding the elevator at work, because my new sparkly ring sparkles especially bright in there.  I make sure to show anyone and everyone who happens to be riding the elevator with me.

We are shooting for an April/May of 2014 wedding.  Spring, beginning of tourist season and mild weather and good prices for a honeymoon in Italy… priorities!  I’m working back in my scheduling from the honeymoon to the venue to how much we want to feed everyone (budget, budget, budget… ugly 6 letter word).  Plus there is something about spring, flowers blooming, snow melting, longer days… that just whispers “romance” to me.

I have not made any real decisions about my wedding yet.  I haven’t decided on a theme, colors, if there will be a bridal party, where the wedding will be, what photographer, what kind of dessert, what kind of entertainment… wait… I have decided that I want a photobooth.  So, I have made 1 decision.  High five to myself!  I told my Mother about the photobooth and she was so excited that she said she would just keep getting back in line until it was done.  I think that having my Mom photo-bomb random people’s photo booth pictures sounds like a perfect summation of where half my genetic makeup came from.

In the very initial stages of “real” wedding researching, I have come across this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=okSwTIfUVY4&feature=youtu.be that I love.  Super adorable.

Lyrics:

If I was a flower growing wild and free
All I’d want is you to be my sweet honey bee.
And if I was a tree growing tall and green
All I’d want is you to shade me and be my leaves

If I was a flower growing wild and free
All I’d want is you to be my sweet honey bee.
And if I was a tree growing tall and green
All I’d want is you to shade me and be my leaves

All I want is you, will you be my bride
Take me by the hand and stand by my side
All I want is you, will you stay with me?
Hold me in your arms and sway me like a sea.

If you were a river in the mountains tall,
The rumble of your water would be my call.
If you were the winter, I know I’d be the snow
Just as long as you were with me, let the cold winds blow

All I want is you, will you be my bride
Take me by the hand and stand by my side
All I want is you, will you stay with me?
Hold me in your arms and sway me like a sea.

If you were a wink, I’d be a nod
If you were a seed, well I’d be a pod.
If you were the floor, I’d wanna be the rug
And if you were a kiss, I know I’d be a hug

All I want is you, will you be my bride
Take me by the hand and stand by my side
All I want is you, will you stay with me?
Hold me in your arms and sway me like a sea.

If you were the wood, I’d be the fire.
If you were the love, I’d be the desire.
If you were a castle, I’d be your moat,
And if you were an ocean, I’d learn to float.

All I want is you, will you be my bride
Take me by the hand and stand by my side
All I want is you, will you stay with me?
Hold me in your arms and sway me like a sea.

I also have a crush on this wedding & the photographer in general: http://www.danistephensonphotography.blogspot.com/2012/10/joel-erins-unforgettable-wisconsin-barn.html

I also really like this photographer’s work: http://www.lisamathewson.com/#/engagements/

I would love to have a barn wedding or something natural and rustic like that… but the logistics of getting out-of-town people from their hotels to the wedding worries me.  I want everyone to have a great time and be safe.  Everyone keeps asking if I’m going to have a large or small wedding.  I think the answer is just the fact that I can’t possibly not invite my family who are all so wonderful… and they alone make up something around 160 guests… so I believe the real question is how much will I be able to afford to feed everyone?  Will guests get champage and a brownie?  Or a nice sit down dinner?  Will I be able to bring my own beverages?  Or pay an arm and a leg for wine/beer/bubbly that is not poured from gold mallets promising youth and wisdom… therefore should NOT require an arm and/or leg to distribute to people.

Not entirely related, but kinda (everything in my mind has a glimmer or sparkle as it relates to wedding/engagement/love, etc right now… so I’m a bit scattered) is that I ran into this vendor: http://alacratevintage.com/ and not only were they totally adorable as individuals, their business is so perfect, relevant and unique.  They went to a bunch of antique stores when they were engaged and outfitted their wedding in perfect antique/vintage style.  Then… it was over and they were left with 85 tea sets and no immediate plans for starting a tea party gang, they weren’t sure what to do.  They ended up selling some of it on Craigslist and found a bunch of other people in the same boat.  They had the epiphany that it would have been so much easier to just rent that stuff instead of purchase it and then try and sell it.  Thus, their business was born.  So innovate and cute. AND they were especially nice and kind to me at the bridal expo when I was so utterly overwhelmed with all things sparkly and white (this was only days after being engaged!).

So, 7 days and 15 hours later I know I’m having a Spring 2014 wedding and their will be a photo booth.  That is all for now, and feels like just the right amount of decisions so far.

Every time I see your face
My heart takes off on a high speed chase
Now don’t be scared, it’s only love
Baby, that we’re falling in

I can’t wait till tomorrow
This feeling has swallowed me whole
And know that I’ve lost control
This heart that I’ve followed
Has left me so hollow
That was then, this is now, yeah you have changed everything

Every time I see your face
My heart takes off on a high speed chase
Now don’t be scared, it’s only love
That we’re falling in
I would never do you wrong
Or let you down or lead you on
Don’t look down, it’s only love
Baby, that we’re falling in

I’m standing in your driveway
It’s midnight and I’m sideways
To find out if you feel the same
Won’t be easy, have my doubts too
But it’s over, without you I’m just lost, incomplete
Yeah you feel like home, home to me

Every time I see your face
My heart takes off on a high speed chase
Now don’t be scared, it’s only love
That we’re falling in
I would never do you wrong
Or let you down or lead you on
Don’t look down, it’s only love
Baby, that we’re falling in

All those nights I stayed awake
Thinking of all the ways to make you mine
All of those smiles will never fade
Never run out of ways to blow my mind

Every time I see your face
My heart takes off on a high speed chase
Now don’t be scared, it’s only love
That we’re falling in
I would never do you wrong
Or let you down or lead you on
Don’t look down, it’s only love
Baby, that we’re falling in
Don’t be scared, it’s only love
Baby, that we’re falling in
